A new variant of the notorious "Elfl" trojan has been detected. It uses the 10.1 API to bypass any antivirus software and is able to steal data from your computer, even if you have Windows Defender enabled. This malicious tool also steals your credentials, searches for valuable information on your computer, searches for valuable information on other computers connected to the same network as yours, and records confidential conversations by monitoring what you type in a chat program such as Skype or TeamSpeak. Antivirus software will still detect this malware without a problem because it encrypts all its activities in a different layer of code from its payload. Antivirus companies will have to rely on the volume of malware currently being detected in order to evaluate the risk posed by this new variant. The authors of the malware have added a module that targets Skype to transmit voice and video communication data from other computers on your local network, which would have been protected against any software installed before. Also, they have added a module for TeamSpeak and it is also able to steal audio and video communication data. This module is inserted at a later stage of the execution of the malware and, if it is detected, no data will be transmitted to the attacker. The "Elfl" trojan's latest version is not compatible with Windows 10 and Microsoft has patched Windows Defender to prevent its use. In response to this threat, Microsoft has released a security update that blocks the download from its website of any applications or services from third parties that can send or receive sensitive information.
